Senior Data Engineer
Location: Remote - must be able to work within IST time zone.
Employment: Contract - renewable 12 month
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable software systems for consumer-facing products. This is a hands-on engineering role covering backend services, databases, APIs, event-driven architectures, and frontend development where needed. You’ll own platform components from initial design through to production, with a focus on performance, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
You’ll also help build and deploy AI-powered agent systems, including multi-agent workflows, tool integrations, retrieval, and autonomous task execution. Working closely with Product, Quality Engineering, and Reliability teams, you’ll maintain high engineering standards, contribute to design and code reviews, and investigate production issues through to root cause.

What we’re looking for:
- 3–6 years of experience building and running production systems at scale
- Strong low-level and high-level system design fundamentals
- Experience with distributed systems, scalability, and failure handling
- Strong data modelling, caching, and event-driven architecture knowledge
- Experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies
- Familiarity with analytics systems such as ClickHouse, Pinot, or BigQuery
- Experience designing REST/gRPC APIs, gateways, authentication, and authorisation
- Strong skills in at least one backend language, such as Java, Python, or Go
- Comfortable working with web frontends such as React
- Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor
- Experience building production AI agents or multi-agent workflows, including evaluation, error handling, and monitoring
- Cloud and infrastructure experience, particularly GCP, containers, and Kubernetes
- Experience with Spark Structured Streaming or Flink
- LLM platform experience, including model serving, evaluation pipelines, or cost and latency optimisation
- Open-source contributions or public technical writing
- Familiarity with Java Spring Boot, Python FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Cassandra, ScyllaDB, MongoDB, or Bigtable
- Experience with Kafka, Pulsar, or equivalent streaming technologies
