Senior / Lead VFX Artist – Stylized 2D Mobile Games (Remote or Barcelona)

A growing mobile game art studio is seeking a Senior or Lead VFX Artist to join their team, focusing on high-quality, stylized 2D games. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience in hand-drawn 2D animation and VFX, particularly for mobile platforms.

You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing real-time visual effects that elevate the gameplay experience. This includes working closely with art and design teams to ensure consistency in style and performance, as well as contributing to pipeline development and, where relevant, leading other VFX artists.

Key Responsibilities

• Create stylized hand-drawn 2D VFX and FX animations that match the visual identity of the games
• Design and implement VFX in real-time using tools like Unity VFX Graph, Spine, Adobe Animate, and Niagara
• Develop custom shaders and particle systems that support gameplay and narrative beats
• Collaborate with designers and developers to integrate VFX assets efficiently into the game engine
• Optimize visual effects for mobile performance across devices using profiling tools
• Guide and mentor junior VFX artists, contributing to a culture of creative and technical excellence
• Contribute to the development and improvement of the studio’s VFX pipeline and tools

Requirements

• Strong portfolio showcasing hand-drawn 2D VFX animation for games
• Experience with real-time VFX implementation in Unity
• Skilled in relevant tools such as Spine, Adobe Animate, After Effects, and Photoshop
• Ability to develop shaders and optimize effects for performance
• Comfortable working across the full VFX pipeline, from concept to implementation
• Experience in stylized art direction and adaptation to existing visual styles
• Prior team leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
• Familiarity with scripting in C# or Python is a bonus
